Northampton Town Women won 2-1 away to Sutton Coldfield Town in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands on Sunday afternoon.
Jade Bell and Alex Dicks scored the Cobblers’ goals as they extended their unbeaten run to four games.
Joint-managers Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams named an unchanged starting lineup following the 6-0 win away to Notts County on Tuesday.
The Cobblers took an early lead when Ruby Heselden played Bell through, and the forward poked past the onrushing Neve Jones.
The visitors struggled to get into their rhythm but threatened again midway through the first half when Dicks hit the crossbar from long range.
Dicks found the bottom corner from the penalty spot to double the advantage on the stroke of half-time. Bell played a one-two with the striker and found Richards, who beat a defender and was brought down in the box.
Sutton Coldfield pushed forward in search of a route back into the contest in the second period. Lois Jefferies broke through on goal within a minute of the restart, and Katie McLean made a one-on-one save with her feet.
The hosts halved the deficit on the hour when Chloe Finn headed in from Megan Hadley’s wide free-kick.
McLean pushed Lauren Da’Casto’s curled effort wide of the post deep in added time to earn all three points and ensure that the Cobblers will secure at least a fifth-placed finish this season.
Oldfield and Williams’ side travel to Sheffield in a rearranged fixture next week.
