Northampton Town Women have won the Northamptonshire FA Women’s Cup!
The Cobblers defeated rivals Peterborough United in the final at the Dog and Duck Football Ground on Sunday afternoon.
Northampton made a perfect start, racing into a two-goal lead in the opening 10 minutes.
Jade Bell dribbled through on goal and slotted into the bottom corner, and Alex Dicks poked the ball past the onrushing Neive Corry and shielded it into the empty net.
Dicks came inches from doubling her tally and extending the advantage midway through the opening period, running onto the ball and flashing a low strike across the face of goal.
Peterborough grew into the contest late in the half, and Katie McLean was quick off her line to deny Kier Perkins inside the area.
Tara Kirk finished into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to halve the deficit going into the break.
Northampton controlled the second half, Kim Farrow curling into the side-netting and Mia Richards hitting the top of the crossbar from a wide free-kick.
The Cobblers deservedly restored their two-goal lead when Farrow drove into the top corner from 20 yards.
McLean ensured that the trophy would be returning to Sixfields Stadium when she tipped Kirk’s fierce strike over the bar late on.
