Northampton Town Women joint-managers Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams believe there are positives to take from their side’s 2-1 loss away to Peterborough United in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands on Sunday.
Jade Bell scored the Cobblers’ goal as they fell to a late defeat.
“It hurts, but we’re proud of the performance,” Williams said.
“The manner in which the game finished is disappointing, but there are lots of things we can take from it moving forwards.
“The girls fought and grafted together, and there was only one team trying to win the game at the end.
“Unfortunately we got caught out by a great strike.”
The Cobblers face Peterborough again in the Northamptonshire FA Women’s Cup final next week. The county cup final will kick-off at 2pm at The Dog and Duck Ground, the home of Wellingborough Town.
“I’m excited because it’s back-to-back derbies,” Oldfield added.
“Our focus was on today’s game first-and-foremost, but now we’re treating it as a two-legged affair.
“After some of the reactions to today’s game, I can’t wait to put it right next week.
“We’ll prepare as well as we can, and we know what we need to do.”
