SHANE GODDARD PLEASED WITH WORK-RATE AFTER LATEST WIN FOR YOUTH TEAM

Reaction to Tuesday's EFL Youth Alliance action

10 April 2024

Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard praised his side’s work-rate after their 2-1 win away to Gillingham in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League Two on Tuesday.

Francesco Obiagwu and Reuben Wyatt scored the young Cobblers’ goals as they earned back-to-back victories for the first time in the second stage of the season.

Goddard said: “We’ve got a really busy week, so there were a lot of changes from Saturday.

“We also made five changes at 60 minutes, and the boys handled it very well.

“Their professionalism, understanding and attitude were really good.

“Gillingham are one of those teams that keep going until the end, so we had to dig in at times.

“It wasn’t necessarily the prettiest performance, but we were good value for the win.

“Our work-rate earned us a positive three points on the road at a difficult place to come to.

“The boys have done well over the last week, and we want to continue that momentum and finish the season on a high.”

The youth team travel to Exeter City a week on Saturday.
