SAM SHERRING & ZOE BOOTE NAMED PFA COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS

Duo honoured at Sunday's dinner

23 April 2024

Sam Sherring and Zoe Boote have been named as the club’s PFA Community Champions for their contributions to the community this season.

The PFA Community Champion is an award that aims to raise the awareness of the support that its members offer to the community projects run by the Northampton Town FC Community Trust throughout the course of the season. The two awards, which showcase all of the great work the club has done on and off the pitch this season, were presented at the Annual End of Season Dinner last weekend.

Sam has supported several initiatives this season including attending events, holiday course appearances and matchday activities. He is professional and engaging at appearances quickly building rapports with NTFC supporters (young and old) and is always open when talking to fans on matchdays and at community events. He has been an excellent role model and is able to impact everyone he meets leaving a smile on their face.

Sherring said “I am very proud to have won this award. This is a club with a very strong connection to the local community and the wards the club have won for their community work are evidence of that. As players we do all we can to support that work and I am delighted to have been recognised for playing a part in that work.”

Club captain Zoe is this year’s winner of the Female PFA Community Champion award and has been supportive to several club and community, putting herself forward for every community event involving the Women’s team. She has gone out of her way to attend events and player appearances, fitting this in around her full-time work and women’s team training.

Scott Loughran, Women & Girls Officer at the Northampton Town FC Community Trust said: “Zoe has inspired girls at our Soccer Schools, attended charity events, spoken at an Inspiration Women event for International Women’s Day and done her best to promote the Women’s and Girls’ Programme on social media as well as in person. She has shown great community spirit and sets a remarkable example for our young players to look up to.”

Maheta Molango – CEO at the Professional Footballers’ Association added: “The PFA has once again been immensely proud of the outstanding efforts of players this season and we feel they should be recognised for their support and involvement in the local community. The Award will hopefully raise awareness of the importance many of our members attach to their roles off the pitch and highlight their continued commitment to support those most in need along with engaging in areas where they have a personal interest. We would like to offer our congratulations to this season’s recipients of the 2023/24 PFA Community Champion Awards.”

The impact the players have had on the work across the Community Trust this year has been brilliant. Congratulations to Sam and Zoe for winning these awards and our thanks goes to them and the rest of their squads for their ongoing support.
