The Cobblers will be without midfielder Matt Taylor for Saturday’s home game against Millwall but Gabriel Zakuani is available again after returning from international duty with DR Congo.

Taylor serves the first game of a three-match ban following his red card at Scunthorpe last weekend.

“Matty has been brilliant for us but it gives an opportunity for someone else in the squad now to come in and step up,” said boss Rob Page.

“It’s unfortunate that we’ve lost him for three games but with the work we did over the summer we’re confident that we’ve got a group of players who can compete.

“It’s good that we’ve got the strength in depth that we have and we’ve got players who can come into the team or who can come off the bench and make an impact.

“Harry Beautyman missed out at the weekend but he’s trained all week and will be available. We could have maybe risked him last Saturday but we would have run the risk then of a longer term injury and we didn’t want to do that.

“Gabs was back in on Thursday and he will be eligible for Saturday. Lewin Nyatanga has come in and done well and we’ve got some difficult decisions to make but that competition is what you want.

“It is frustrating when Gabs is away but he’s captaining his country which is a great honour and I’d never want him to give that up easily. I totally understand and respect his decision to go away and they had a great result so he will be full of confidence coming back into it.”
