CHAIRMAN PLEASED WITH RECRUITMENT PROGRESS

24 June 2016

Kelvin Thomas on the work to strengthen the squad

In a Cobblers PlayerHD interview, Chairman Kelvin Thomas has been talking about work to strengthen the squad with pre-season training set to begin on July 1st.

"We are moving along well," he said.

"Andy Melville and Rob Page have been talking to a lot of potential new recruits and we are now entering decision making time for players and agents.

"In the main, the early recruits have been about backing up and adding depth to what we have, and all of our signings will add something to the strong existing squad that will enable us to compete in League One. I like the way Andy and Rob are going about their business. There is no panic, no rush, we are being very thorough and professional. Rob is comfortable and confident with the squad and we defer to his judgement and experience about League 1. He knows we have players already in the building with the ability to compete, and that is a great base to build from.

"We aren't going to just throw money around and we won't break the bank for one player, we will be ambitious but sensible. Alex Revell is a good signing, I know other clubs wanted him and he comes with glowing references from his previous clubs and I think he will do well. The young full backs will offer potential and competition and I am looking forward to seeing their progress. We are well covered and solid in the goalkeeping department and we are looking at a squad of around 23 so there are 5 or 6 to come in and we are very comfortable with where we are."
