A FINISHING POSITION BETTERED ONLY THREE TIMES IN 57 YEARS

Cobblers have only finished higher three times since 1967

Northampton Town's finishing position of 14th in the third tier is a position the club have only bettered three times in the last 57 years.

The last time the Cobblers came higher than 14th in League One was under Stuart Gray in the 2007/08 season, when the Cobblers came 9th with 66 points.

Prior to that, in 1997/98, Ian Atkins took Northampton Town to the third tier play off final after a 4th placed finish, while before that, Graham Carr's side came 6th in the 1987/88 Division 3 table.

Before then you have to go back to a 21st placed finish in the 1966/67 Division 2 table for the last time the Cobblers finished higher up the football ladder.

Since returning to the basement division in 1969, the club have spent only sixteen of the 54 seasons outside of the fourth tier, but next season will be the fifth season in the last nine the Cobblers have been in the third division of English football.
