YOUTH TEAM END SEASON WITH NARROW DEFEAT

EFL Youth Alliance Merit Division action

27 April 2024

Northampton Town Under 18s lost 2-1 at home to Milton Keynes Dons in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League Two on Saturday morning.

Neo Dobson scored the young Cobblers’ goal as they ended the season with a defeat.

The first chance of the game fell to MK Dons 10 minutes in as Michael Brammeld rounded Marcus Bald and passed into the side-netting from a tight angle.

The visitors threatened again midway through the first half when Bald tipped over captain Keon Lewis-Burgess’ drive from the edge of the area.

They came closest to opening the scoring on the half-an-hour mark, Bald making a low save and skipper Josh Rayfield blocking a strike on the line during a goalmouth scramble.

The Cobblers went straight up the other end and took the lead against the run of play. Dobson took the ball wide and smashed into the top corner at the near post.

MK Dons created the first opportunity of the second period as Callum Tripp flicked a header past the far post from Brogan Matthews’ out-swinging free-kick.

The visitors’ Damerai Singh-Hurditt dribbled to the edge of the box and fired over the crossbar going into the last quarter-of-an-hour.

They turned the scoreline around and secured all three points with two goals in three minutes late on.
