ROTHERHAM PREVIEW: JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK LOOKING FOR HIGH TEMPO DISPLAY ON SATURDAY

Read the pre match thoughts of the Cobblers boss

15 March 2018

Cobblers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink says his side must improve their home form as he previews Saturday's home game against Rotherham United.

"We really want to improve our home form," he said.

"I don't want to highlight it too much because I want us to be as relaxed as possible.

"Rotherham are a very good side and we will need to be at our best as a team on Saturday.

"I want us to play at a high tempo and I think it's going to be a good match to be involved in.

"I was very happy with our last home performance against Oxford but we need to add goals."

Kevin Luckassen made his full debut with both Hildeberto Pereira and Daniel Powell also coming into the side for the visit of Rotherham United. Kevin van Veen, back from a knee injury, was named on the bench. Matt Crooks (suspension) and Chris Long (back) were unavailable for selection.

On a cold and windy afternoon at Sixfields there was a period of applause before kick-off to mark the passing of former player John Kurila.

After a fairly uneventful opening quarter of an hour it was Rotherham who took the lead, former Cobblers loanee Michael Smith capitalising on a long free kick to side-foot the ball home from close range. An instinctive save from Richard O’Donnell against his former club then prevented Jon Taylor doubling the Millers' lead.

Semi Ajayi also had a chance to make it 2-0 but the remainder of the first half was a little scrappy until John-Joe O’Toole saw a shot blocked at close range in stoppage time.

Ash Taylor, on the stretch, headed wide from a Daniel Powell cross and Pereira had a shot saved by Marek Rodak in a brighter start to the second half from the Cobblers.

O’Donnell again denied Taylor with a smart save on 57 minutes before Semi Ajayi was fortunate not to receive a second booking for a foul on Pereira.

David Ball doubled Rotherham’s lead just after the hour mark, the former Fleetwood striker scoring from 8-yards despite the best efforts of O’Donnell. Joe Mattock was then another Millers player who could maybe have been shown a second yellow card by referee Ben Toner.

Rotherham increased their lead on 81 minutes, Richie Towell curling in a shot from the edge of the area following a slick counter-attack. That was that in terms of goalmouth action and the team fourth in Sky Bet League 1 closed out the victory.

Sixfields is heading for a big crowd on Saturday when Northampton Town welcome Rotherham United for a 3pm kick off.

Supporters have been snapping tickets up for the game, and a large attendance is certain, but tickets do remain on sale and it is expected they will be available on arrival.

Tickets can be purchased ahead of matchday via ntfcdirect.co.uk with the best prices available ahead of matchday.

If collecting pre-ordered match tickets, please visit the ticket point opposite the main entrance.

Please note that tickets for forthcoming games and season tickets are on sale, but for the hour before kick off the ticket office will be selling Rotherham United match tickets only.

Remember, you can beat the queues by buying match tickets via ntfcdirect.co.uk and printing your tickets at home!

As part of increased security measures, a 100% search policy will be in operation. Because of this, supporters are advised to arrive as early as possible. Turnstiles will be open from 1pm.

Three points isn't the only priority on Saturday, making sure everyone goes home safe is the most important result.

Northampton Town have been working closely with the police and the EFL to review security at Sixfields. Now we are asking you to do your bit.

It is vital that everyone - players, staff and supporters - remain vigilant and report any concerns to stewards or police.

Attacks might be rare, and the chance of you being caught up in one unlikely, but the message is #ActionCountersTerrorism.

Here's a quick reminder of what you can do to help keep yourself and others safe:
• Arrive early, allowing more time for security checks
• Minimise what you carry, fewer bag searches will speed up entry to the ground
• Be vigilant at all times and if you see anything suspicious, tell a steward right away
• If you see anything that could pose an immediate threat to safety, call 999
• In an emergency, listen to the Public Address instructions and follow them
• If told to evacuate, do so immediately, do not wait around to film events on your mobile
• Move right away from the stadium as quickly as possible for your safety and to allow clear access for any emergency vehicles
• Once you are safe, follow Northamptonshire Police on Twitter for updates

POLITE NOTICE: Supporters are reminded that only food and drink purchased within the stadium should be consumed on the stadium premises please. Thank you.
