SUPPORTERS REPRESENTATIVE TOM CLIFFE PROVIDES AN UPDATE AFTER LATEST FAN ADVISORY BOARD MEETING

Working with the club on a number of projects

27 May 2024

Supporters Representative Tom Cliffe chaired the second meeting of the Fans Advisory Board (FAB) on Thursday.

Following the meeting, he updated supporters and talked about some of the topics covered, and how the FAB can work with and help the club.

"Things are going really well," he said. We had our latest meeting on Thursday and there was a good representation from a number of different groups from across the club's fanbase. Although the season has finished there was a lot to talk about and a lot of ideas to bring together.

"One of the key things to understand is that the FAB is not just about creating a shopping list of everything we want without any awareness of the costs or implications. It is about how we can help the club improve in certain areas, what we can move forward with and be part of and how best to utilise relationships across the fanbase using the skills and expertise available to us.

"It is important things are realistic. We asked fans what they wanted to see and how that could be achieved and that highlighted to me the importance of listening to supporters from across the fanbase, from young supporters and families, to supporters who are at the other end of the spectrum. We had some great feedback from the Family Excellence Award mystery shopper report and ideas about how we can get involved to help the club improve even further. It's our football club, it belongs to us all and the passion to help is there.

"It is just about making the club better in a number of ways where we can. One of the key points we came up with was being 'Here to help' for first time supporters. We are looking at a group of people, maybe some helping out every game and some just from time to time, but it is about being here to greet first time fans to welcome them to Sixfields. There is nothing better than being greeted by a supporter at a club to show you what is what and how things work. That can be for both home and away supporters, we as fans can really take ownership of that and hopefully help the club on to the gold award in the Family Excellence Scheme next season.

"We are not involved in the building of the East Stand of course but we can look at things like naming of rooms, naming of areas, maybe a Hall of Fame, how that would look and also a scheme around allowing to fans maybe buy a brick to share memories of loved ones or to even put a message of support down from themselves, making sure that such a scheme is accessible for supporters. Having a good relationship with the club and being able to work with the club gives us the access to do that and that's important.

"Sixfields is 30 years old in October and we had a chat about how we can help mark that anniversary. Ideas put forward were around social media memories, fans recreating some of the famous goals here and getting local schools and the university involved, we have lots of space to work with. We welcome ideas for that, merchandise ideas around that milestone and we want to celebrate our history but also look at how we can make things even better. It was fascinating to hear how different memories of different people came together and I am sure we can mark the anniversary in style.

"The FAB is also about sharing information. We don't produce formal minutes, I don't want people to say we are just telling them what we want them to hear.  I want those supporters representing groups to take back their own notes to report back to their users and members in their own words with their own opinions and interpretations.

"There are many different groups involved with the FAB so if fans wish to get involved and pass their thoughts on to any group they are part of, please do, or I can be contacted directly at cliffetom@hotmail.com."
