SHANE GODDARD PLEASED WITH WIN OVER BRENTFORD

Reaction to Saturday's EFL Youth Alliance Merit Division action

Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard praised his side as they won 4-2 at home to Brentford in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League Two on Saturday.

Harry Guess scored a brace whilst Joziah Barnett and Oliver Evans netted the young Cobblers’ other goals as they secured their first victory of the second stage of the season.

“I’m really pleased with some of the football we played, and our out-of-possession work was outstanding,” Goddard said.

“It resulted in a lot of regains in promising areas, and we didn’t allow Brentford to create anything for large periods of the first half.

“Our transitional play was really good in the second half, and we scored two more goals as a result of better decision-making and more aggressive forward-running.

“Scoring four is really positive, and it shows that we’re on an upward trend in terms of performances and results.

“The group can be really pleased with their effort and application.”

The youth team travel to Forest Green Rovers next week. Neo Dobson scored a brace and Guess netted the young Cobblers’ other goal as they won 3-0 away to their opponents in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup southern section second round in August.
