JOINT MANAGERS TAKE POINT BUT DISAPPOINTED BY PERFORMANCE OF NORTHAMPTON TOWN WOMEN

Reaction to Sunday's game

18 March 2024

Northampton Town Women joint-managers Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams were disappointed with their side’s first-half performance in their 1-1 draw at home to Lincoln City in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands on Sunday.

Fay Noble scored the Cobblers’ goal as they earned a point following an improved showing in the second period.

“We’re pleased that we’ve come away with something, but we’re not so pleased with the performance,” Williams said.

“The first half was simply not good enough from our point of view.

“We grew into the game in the second half, but we really need to get on the front foot earlier.

“We can’t allow any side in this league a free 45 minutes, this league is too tough for that.

Hopefully the girls will have learned that lesson, and hopefully they’ll respond on Tuesday night away to Solihull Moors.”

The joint-managers named an unchanged starting line up for the third consecutive match, their team’s third of five in two weeks.

Oldfield was pleased with the impact the substitutes made off the bench.

“Mia Richards and Georgia Gale both came on early, and they helped change the momentum of the game,” he added.

“We weren’t at the levels we needed to be in the first half, and games can easily get away from you.

“Mia and Georgia helped us compete more and get a foothold in the game.

“Ona Ndefo looked sharp and hungry when she came on, and all of the substitutes made an impact overall.”
