NORTHAMPTON TOWN WOMEN CLAIM AWAY WIN

A report on Tuesday's game

12 March 2024

Northampton Town Women won 4-1 away to Boldmere St. Michaels in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands on Tuesday evening.

Kim Farrow scored a brace whilst Laila Channell and Mia Richards netted the Cobblers’ other goals as they defeated the title contenders, completing the double over them this season.

Joint-managers Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams named an unchanged starting line up following the narrow defeat at home to Sporting Khalsa on Sunday. Goalkeeper Holly Mayfield replacing striker Ona Ndefo on the bench was the only change in the squad.

The Cobblers made a bright start, but it was the Mikes who would create the first opportunity of the contest when Katie McLean dived to her right to tip Jade Formaston’s header wide.

The visitors opened the scoring on the half-an-hour mark as Farrow played a one-two with Jade Bell and her cross-shot was sliced into the back of the net by a defender.

The pair linked-up again early in the second half, but Bell’s attempted lob from Farrow’s reverse pass was caught by the onrushing Jodie Whiteman.

Boldmere equalised against the run of play a few minutes later when Formaston’s deep cross hit the inside of the post and bounced over the line.

The Cobblers regained control and restored their lead on the hour, Farrow beating a defender to a ball in behind, cutting inside and finding the back of the net via a deflection.

Channell extended the visitors’ advantage five minutes later, sprinting onto a loose ball in the box and finishing to score her first goal for the club.

The three points were all but sealed with three minutes of normal time remaining when substitute Richards won a 50-50 challenge, broke through on goal and was tripped on the edge of the area. The defender was shown a straight red card as a result.

Richards made sure of her side’s win in added time. Fellow sub Paris Mallon’s close-range attempt was beaten away by Whiteman and the midfielder’s follow-up diverted into the bottom corner off a defender.

The Cobblers host Lincoln City in their next FAWNL Division One Midlands fixture on Sunday.
