SHANE GODDARD PLEASED AS YOUTH TEAM CLAIM POINT ON THE ROAD

The views of the Under 18s Coach

Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was pleased with his side’s performance as they drew 1-1 away to Leyton Orient in the EFL Youth Alliance South East on Tuesday.

Charlie Carroll scored the young Cobblers’ goal as they earned a point in the rearranged fixture.

“It was a good advert for Youth Alliance football because it was a great game,” Goddard said.

“Both teams were positive and on the front foot, and there were good defensive elements on display as well.

“We didn’t manage to convert entries into chances in the first half, and Marcus Bald had to make a few big saves.

“We were in the game, but we needed to do a bit more in the second half.

“We were probably one or two decisions at key moments away from taking all three points.

“We have to be pleased with a point on the road and our response to Saturday’s defeat.

“There are lots of positives to take, and I’m pleased with the effort we put in and the quality we played with.”

The youth team travel to Cambridge United for their penultimate match of the regular season at the weekend.
