SHANE GODDARD DISAPPOINTED BY LOSS FOR YOUTH TEAM

Reaction to Saturday's EFL Youth Alliance action

Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was disappointed with his side’s 1-0 defeat at home to Sutton United in the EFL Youth Alliance South East on Saturday.

“The last seven days have summed-up our season,” he said.

“We’ve been inconsistent, and that’s something the boys have to overcome.

“We talk a lot about being good at the basics, and that’s something we’re going to have to keep drilling into them.

“We edged the first half in terms of territory and chances, but Sutton were resolute and made the game difficult for us.

“We turned the ball over sloppily in one phase, and we got punished by a quick transition.

“We’re disappointed to have lost the game, but the positive is that we gave minutes to lots of Under 16s.”

The youth team travel to Leyton Orient in a rearranged fixture on Tuesday. Jacob Scott, Neo Dobson and Jamari Hart scored the young Cobblers’ goals in a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture in September.
