SHANE GODDARD DISAPPOINTED BY YOUTH TEAM DEFEAT

Reaction to Friday's EFL Youth Alliance action

Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was disappointed after his side’s 2-1 defeat at home to AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Youth Alliance South East on Friday afternoon.

The fixture was brought forward from Saturday morning and played at Moulton FC.

“The group will be frustrated with today’s loss,” Goddard said.

“We were in the game, but we didn’t do enough to get the point or the win.

“We were okay structurally, and we forced them to go long a few times, but we didn’t make enough safe passes in the early-build phases to allow ourselves to develop any patterns.

“We need to be calmer and show more patience with the ball.

“Overall, we found it hard to showcase the things we’ve been good at throughout the course of the season so far.

“I come away from today’s game with more questions than answers, but we’ll go back to the drawing board and try to bounce back and respond positively.”

The youth team host Luton Town in another rearranged fixture on Tuesday.
