Northampton Town Under 18s won 3-2 at home to Luton Town in the EFL Youth Alliance South East on Tuesday afternoon.
Neo Dobson scored a brace and Reuben Wyatt netted the young Cobblers’ other goal as they secured a victory in the rearranged fixture.
Both sides struggled to get going in a rain-affected first half, Luton the only team to threaten in the opening half-an-hour with Jamie Odegah heading Charlie Trustram’s corner over from close range and Leon Routh seeing his drive from the edge of the box deflect narrowly wide.
Northampton took the lead through their first clear opportunity five minutes before the break, Wyatt finishing into the bottom corner having received Charlie Carroll’s through-ball.
Tate Xavier-Jones equalised for the visitors on the hour mark with a similar low shot across goal.
The hosts came close to restoring their lead when substitute Dobson dribbled into the area and smashed over the crossbar and James Owen’s looping wide free-kick almost caught ‘keeper Cai Hockey out at his far post.
However, Marcus Warren nodded Xavier-Jones’ cross in from six yards to turn the game on its head going into the final quarter-of-an-hour.
The advantage lasted less than two minutes as Dobson ran onto Wyatt’s pass and placed into the bottom corner to draw the Cobblers level.
Tom Cartwright headed wide from Owen’s deep corner and Harry Guess’ stab towards goal was denied by the onrushing Hockey as the hosts looked the more likely side to snatch all three points in the closing stages.
They did just that in added time when Marcus Bald claimed a free-kick and sent the ball forward, Claude Kayibanda misjudged the bounce and Dobson rolled home his second goal of the afternoon having rounded Hockey.
