A report on Sunday's action

21 January 2024

Northampton Town Women won 5-0 at home to Brackley Town in the Northamptonshire FA Women’s Cup on Sunday afternoon.

The Cobblers’ victory secured their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Joint-managers Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams made three changes to the side that narrowly lost at home to top-of-the-table Loughborough Lightning in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands last week.

Holly Mayfield replaced Katie McLean in goal, Paige Ridley returned from injury in place of Mia Richards and Paris Mallon came in for Alex Dicks to make her first start for the club.

The Cobblers took an early lead when Kim Farrow slotted past the ‘keeper.

Mallon found the top corner with a first-time strike to double the advantage on the quarter-of-an-hour mark.

The forward added her second goal on the half-hour, smashing Bell’s square ball into the roof of the net.

Fay Noble drove into the area and fired into the top corner to make it four early in the second half.

Jade Bell found the bottom corner from long range to complete the scoring late on.

The Cobblers return to FAWNL Division One Midlands action at home to Lincoln City next week.
