The Man v Fat Football league is a male specific programme which takes the love of football, and allows men to lose weight alongside playing the game. Men aged 18+ with a BMI of over 27.5+ are placed into teams and devise their own team name. A 6 a side football match is then played with the final score being placed into a league, however that is only half the score! Men are then weighed to monitor weekly weight loss with extra goals been scored depending on the number of your team losing weight.
You can read Frank's story below:
“Since rejoining Man v Fat in May 2023 (after a break of about 5 years) I have so enjoyed playing football and being part of a team.
"My main drivers were my physical and mental health but my goal was to lose enough weight to be fit enough to ski with my family at Christmas.
"It was, of course, hard to start with but the feeling of pride and achievement when I started to lose consistently spurred me on to my own personal target of a 3 and a half stone weight loss.
"It’s been hard but carefully controlling my calories and starting to play with mates on another night as well as dusting off my exercise bike and by doing 10 miles at least twice a week has helped no end.
"The team of lads I joined were fantastic, very encouraging and a pleasure to get to know.
"Thank you Man v Fat, you have given me a new lease of life.”
Since August 2021, Man v Fat has launched a few more leagues around the county including Kettering and Northampton. They are growing and they offer an outlet to those in the North Northants area. The Kettering League saw over 300kg of weight lost in its inaugural season, now with a total combined loss of over 450kg with some participants recording a 30% weight loss.
Both leagues have places available so if you are male aged 18+ with a BMI over 27.5 then this could be the programme for you.
