Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was delighted with his side’s performance as they won 2-1 at home to Milton Keynes Dons in the EFL Youth Alliance South East on Saturday.
Harry Guess and Neo Dobson scored the young Cobblers’ goals as they earned a victory on the final matchday of the regular season.
“I’m really pleased with the football we played,” Goddard said.
“We were brave, we showed quality, and our decision-making and movement were really good.
“The only frustration is that the boys didn’t capitalise on the chances they had to make the scoreline more comfortable.
“As a result, there was a spell at the end when we had to hang on and manage the game.
“Overall, I’m really pleased with how we’ve finished the regular season.
“The Merit League is out of our hands, so we’ll see what the remaining results are and look at what the challenge is between now and the end of the season.
“It’ll be about replicating some of the good things we’ve done so far.
“The boys have shown what they’re capable of.”
The youth team’s Merit League fixtures will be released in due course.
