Jon Brady praised the players as he reflected on an eventful 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers at Sixfields.
Kieron Bowie put the Cobblers in front early on but after having George Thomason sent off Bolton equalised in the second half through substitute Carlos Mendes Gomes.
“It’s a bit bitter sweet,” he said.
“That’s down to the players and their attitude, they took on board what we were trying to do and showed real energy and effort.
“The game could have gone either way and it ebbed and flowed but all things considered I think you have to be happy with a point against a very strong Bolton side.
“At half-time it was all hands to the pump and I haven’t had a chance yet to debrief with the medical team. I will have to let the dust settle and then see how things are with Lee and Aaron.
“Dom Gape was very good today and people are enjoying this team, the stadium is vibrant and the players are giving it everything. It’s been a great three years but we have still got a lot to do to try and maintain our League 1 status and keep progressing.”
