Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was disappointed with his side’s 2-0 defeat away to Forest Green Rovers in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League Two on Saturday.
Goddard said: “We weren’t anywhere near the level we needed to be at today.
“We didn’t do the basics right, and we got punished for it.
“We conceded an early goal in each half, and we needed to show more desire to get back into the game.
“We’ve been inconsistent this season, and that’s something we’ll have to improve next season.
“We need to show a positive reaction next week and build on that until the end of the season.”
The youth team host Newport County in their next Merit League fixture. The Cobblers won 4-1 at home to the Exiles in the second stage of the 2022-23 campaign.
