NORTHAMPTON TOWN WOMEN MANAGEMENT DUO FRUSTRATED BY DEFEAT

Reaction to Saturday's action

8 April 2024

Northampton Town Women joint-managers Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams were disappointed with their side’s 1-0 defeat at home to Leafield Athletic in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands on Sunday.

Oldfield said: “It was one of those days when you have a lot of the ball, but it doesn’t quite happen for you.

“It was a tough watch, and Leafield were desperate for the points, so fair play to them for grabbing them late on.

“We weren’t at our best in the first half, but we could have been two or three goals up.

“We didn’t do enough to win the game in the second half.

“It’s not how we wanted our good run of form to end, and our preparations went well, but as I said, it was one of those days.

“We have to move on to the next one.”

Oldfield and Williams’ side travel to Peterborough United next week. Alex Dicks and Jade Bell scored the Cobblers’ goals as they defeated their rivals 2-1 on the opening day of the season in August.

Williams added: “We’ve had some close games with them over the years.

“It’s a local rivalry, and we’re both competing at the top end of the league.

“We’re excited for the challenge, and we’re confident we’ll raise our standards for it.

“It will be a tough game, but we’re sure the girls will show the best versions of themselves.”
