Northampton Town took on Carlisle United at Sixfields in their penultimate home game of the 2023/24 season. Jon Brady made one change to the starting XI with Akin Odimayo replacing Liam Moore (shoulder). It was Odimayo’s first start since New Year's Day while also back fit, Jordan Willis was named on the bench.

On an extremely windy afternoon both sides struggled to adapt to the conditions early on with the first real chance coming on 21 minutes, Lee Burge tipping over a header from Georgie Kelly.

In a half of very few clear cut chances for either side Kieron Bowie put the Cobblers in front from close range on 33 minutes when Mitch Pinnock’s corner was headed back by Sam Sherring.

With players' minutes still being managed, Jon Brady made a change at half-time, Ali Koiki coming on for Odimayo.

Aaron McGowan headed over from a Pinnock corner and Sherring was close to converting a free-kick from the postman as the Cobblers pressed for a second goal.

Jack Sowerby and Shaun McWilliams came on in a double change, replacing Sam Hoskins and Ben Fox while Jordan Willis came on for McGowan and Louis Appere made way for Tony Springett who drew a late save from Harry Lewis.

The Cobblers had controlled the game in tricky conditions and the win was sealed with a terrific solo goal on the counter-attack from Ali Koiki in stoppage time.
