Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was disappointed with his side’s 2-1 defeat away to Milton Keynes Dons in the EFL Youth Alliance South East on Saturday.
The loss ended the young Cobblers’ five-match winning run in all competitions.
“We weren’t at our best, we didn’t use the ball well enough and the best team won on the day,” Goddard said.
“We dropped off a little bit in terms of performance and were punished for it.
“We didn’t rise to the challenge or showcase ourselves well enough.
“However, we won’t get too down because our results have been good since the start of the season.
“If we respond well, we’ll be okay, and that’s the test for the boys now.
“We’re looking for a positive reaction next week.”
