SHANE GODDARD PLEASED WITH YOUTH TEAM CUP PROGRESS

Reaction to Saturday's EFL Youth Alliance action

Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was satisfied as his side progressed to the southern section third round of the EFL Youth Alliance Cup with a 4-2 win at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Reuben Wyatt scored a brace of penalties whilst Jacob Scott and Harry Guess netted the young Cobblers’ other goal as they earned a fourth consecutive victory in all competitions.

“The positive is that the boys achieved their first objective which was to get into the next round,” Goddard said.

“It was also good for the group to show resilience and quality and win a game when they weren’t at their best.

“We were as good as we have been at any point this season for the first 20 minutes.

“We lost our momentum and let them get a foothold in the game after the water break, and they caused us a few problems.

“We had to find a way to win, and we were effective where we needed to be in the second half.”
