JACOB'S PRIDE AT MAKING FIRST TEAM DEBUT

Local, academy midfielder reflects on Tuesday's game

6 September 2023

Academy player Jacob Scott was proud to have made his first team debut on Tuesday.

The Kettering born midfielder, who turns 18 later this week, has come through the Northampton Town Academy age groups and after Tuesday's game spoke of his pride at making his first team bow.

"It was an unreal experience, I had family in the stands and it was a lifelong ambition and to make my debut was really special," he said.

"Jack Sowerby helped me through, he was next to me in midfield and he was great. Aaron McGowan was a big help too and it was great to be a part of the game on Tuesday.

"I am looking to push on now. Hopefully this is the first step for me. I want to say thank you to the Gaffer for giving me the chance, to Shane Goddard for his work too as well as Ian Sampson and all the coaches in the academy.

"The next step is to try and force my way in to the squad in the league. I have now played in the EFL Trophy, I was on the bench against Swansea City in the Carabao Cup and having had a taste of what it is like in the first team I want to work hard and try and get more first team experience.

"I am a massive fan of Jude Bellingham but on a more local note, Shaun McWilliams is a player to look up and to follow his path as he came through the academy and has played a lot of games for the first team and that would be fantastic to try and emulate."
