The views of the Cobblers boss

Jon Brady reflected on Tuesday night’s EFL Trophy tie with Chelsea U21s praising both the young players in the group and skipper Aaron McGowan.

“With the injuries we’ve got at the moment we have to protect the group but at the same time we want to respect the competition and its about getting that balance right,” he said.

“We put a squad out that was competitive to start and then we bought some younger players on in the second half.

“They worked hard and applied themselves really well.

“It’s a good lesson for those youngsters and there were some real positives for the academy tonight.

“We got some good minutes into Ben Fox, Ryan Haynes and a few others, Tyreece Simpson came off with a bit of tightness and he is being checked over.

Brady also praised the character of Aaron McGowan who played in the game following the passing of his father earlier in the day.

“Aaron’s dad passed away this morning and that is obviously a hard thing to take but his dad wanted him to play tonight and Aaron being the man he is stepped up to play.

“That shows the incredible man he is and we send our condolences to Aaron and his family.”
