Jordan Willis came in for his full debut as Jon Brady switched to a central back three for the midweek visit of Leyton Orient.

A minute's applause was held before kick off in memory of England World Cup winner Sir Bobby Charlton.

The Cobblers made a fast start but Sol Brynn was alert to the danger as Marc Leonard tried to curle in a free-kick at his near post. It was Orient though who made the breakthrough on 14 minutes, Rob Hunt finding the bottom corner with a shot from the edge of the area.

Lee Burge made a terrific close range save to keep the scoreline at 0-1 but the Cobblers went close to an equaliser when Sam Hoskins volleyed just over the bar.

Sam Hoskins, set clear by Shaun McWilliams, equalised for the Cobblers early in the second half with a deflected shot from an acute angle and when Akin Odimayo was sent tumbling in the area Hoskins, now clear in tenth in the club’s all time goalscorers list, kept his cool to score from the penalty spot, the game turned on its head in three frantic minutes.

Manny Monthe made a good block to deny O’s goalscorer Hunt but with just under an hour played Town were reduced to ten men when Kieron Bowie was shown a straight red card following an off the ball incident.

O’s centre-back Brandon Cooper fired over from 12-yards and Ruel Sotiriou spurned a good chance to make it 2-2 with a header wide at the back post. Brynn then made a good save to deny Leonard following a Cobblers breakaway before Orient had the ball in the back of the net only for the goal to be ruled out for handball.

Sotiriou was denied by a flying save from Burge as Orient tried to make the most of their numerical advantage and the Cobblers keeper was called upon again, making another terrific stop from Jordan Brown.

The Cobblers were defending heroically but Orient snatched a point with a goal six minutes into stoppage time, Jordan Graham’s ball into the box poked home by substitute Shaq Forde.
