DEVELOPMENT SQUAD ENJOY LUTON WORK OUT

A report on Tuesday's 3-2 win over Luton Town

17 October 2023

A Northampton Town development squad ran out 3-2 winners against Luton Town in a development friendly match on Tuesday

Among those included in the Cobblers side were Max Thompson, Peter Abimbola, Neo Dobson, Jamari Hart, Ryan Haynes, Ali Koiki, Harvey Lintott, Aaron McGowan, Josh Rayfield, Jacob Scott, Josh Tomlinson and Reuben Wyatt, and they came up against a Hatters team that included recent signing Andros Townsend.

Amongst the scorers for the Cobblers were youth team players Jamari Hart and Neo Dobson. The game was split in to three 30 minute sections with Andros Townsend opening the scoring for Luton in the 28th minute, a free-kick finding the back of the net via the crossbar. The second period was goalless.

The Cobblers equalised in the 68th minute thanks to a Jamari Hart finish. Just under ten minutes later the young Cobblers side went in front only to be pegged back 10 minutes later as Oli Lynch equalised for the Hatters. The Cobblers weren't done there and instantly responded a minute later with Neo Dobson securing the win in the 89th minute.

First Team Coach Marc Richards was pleased with the effort from his side, "It was a really worthwhile workout and the professionalism from all the lads, the under 18s and the senior boys was excellent," he said.

"It was important to get some minutes in to the legs of the lads who are on the fringes at the moment in order to keep match fitness and sharpness up, it was also a great exercise for the likes of Ali Koiki as he continues to get minutes as he builds up his return.

"It was also another chance for us as staff to get a good look at some of the lads in the under 18s and get them involved in a match with some of the senior lads, something they took in their stride and will help them with their development going forward."
