Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard believes his side ‘have to be better’ after they were knocked out of the Northamptonshire FA David Joyce Cup on penalties away to Bugbrooke St. Michaels on Thursday.

The young Cobblers drew 1-1 in normal time and lost 4-3 in the shootout.

“First and foremost, congratulations to Bugbrooke,” Goddard said.

“Special mention to Billy Panter for his save at the end of injury time and his penalty heroics.

“We weren’t tidy enough on the ball or clinical enough when we created chances.

“We have to be better, but we also have to look at the bigger picture.

“We’ve had a good year, and we need to finish it strongly as we look ahead to potential loans in the New Year.”

The youth team travel to Brentford in a rearranged EFL Youth Alliance South East fixture a week on Friday.
