15 November 2023

Northampton Town Football and Education Programme Development lost 5-3 at home to Peterborough United in a friendly on Wednesday afternoon.

Leonardo Napodano, Giancarlo Mercuri and Bradley Cheshire scored the Cobblers’ goals in an end-to-end contest.

The hosts opened the scoring with an early penalty and quickly doubled their lead before the quarter-of-an-hour mark.

Peterborough halved the deficit with a spot-kick of their own, but the Cobblers restored their two-goal advantage going into the break.

However, their opponents scored twice to draw level midway through the second half before securing a victory with two late strikes.

Elsewhere, the Elite team lost 4-2 away to Reading in the National Football Youth League Premier Cup.

Romeo Ingman netted both of the Cobblers’ goals as they were knocked out of the competition by their opponents, who are currently second in the NFYL South Premier Division.

Meanwhile, the Women’s team won 2-0 away to Norwich City in the NFYL Cup Women.

Kitty Crouch and Ellie Barker bagged the Cobblers’ goals as they progressed to the next round at the expense of their NFYL South Premier Women 2 opponents.
