SHANE GODDARD PLEASED AS UNDER 18S WIN EFL YOUTH ALLIANCE MERIT LEAGUE TWO

Reaction to Saturday's EFL Youth Alliance Merit Division action

1 May 2023

Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was delighted after his side secured the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League Two title on Saturday.

James Owen and Neo Dobson both scored braces, whilst Jacob Scott netted the young Cobblers’ other goal as they won 5-0 away to Southend United, securing the championship with a game to spare.

“What a second half to the season we’ve had!” Goddard exclaimed.

“The boys have been resolute and difficult to beat and when they’ve had chances to show their quality, they’ve played some really good football.

“There’s a ruthless streak that runs through the group and they’ve got a good balance about them.

“They’re a great bunch to work with and I’m really proud of each-and-every one of them.

“The second years set the foundations for the Under 16s to build on throughout the course of the season and have played a role in today’s success.

“It’s been a massive team effort and I’m really pleased.

“It puts us in a great position going into next season, and we’ll be hoping to be competitive from the off.”

The youth team complete their season at home to Milton Keynes Dons next week. If they avoid defeat, they will end their Merit League campaign unbeaten.
