NORTHAMPTON TOWN WOMEN MANAGEMENT DUO DELIGHTED TO END SEASON WITH A VICTORY

Reaction to Sunday's action

Joint-managers Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams praised their Northampton Town Women side who won 2-0 away to Doncaster Rovers Belles on Sunday.

Jade Bell and Alex Dicks scored the Cobblers’ goals as they ended their first ever FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands campaign with a victory in front of an attendance of 1,425 at the Eco-Power Stadium.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have scored a couple of goals and keep a clean sheet away from home against a tough team,” Williams said.

“It was a big day for Doncaster who were playing at their first team’s stadium, so our focus was on playing our game rather than the occasion.

“We managed the game really well and we’re really pleased with how the girls went about their business.

“They were competitive and had to weather the storm at times, whilst being ruthless at the other end.

“We were good value for three points today.”

The Cobblers finish the campaign in fourth place, having earned 36 points throughout their first campaign in the fourth tier.

“We can look back and be proud of what we’ve achieved this season,” Oldfield added.

“There’s a big jump in quality between the leagues and results have been hard to come by at times.

“Every team makes you work hard for the three points, and every game is a grind.

“Having said that, we’ve shown that we’re capable of competing at the top of this league in moments, and that’s where we want to be.

“We’ve put ourselves in a good position to build from looking ahead to next year.”
