Northampton Town Chief Executive James Whiting has been reflecting on the club winning promotion at Tranmere Rovers on Monday.
The Cobblers won 1-0 in front of 2,200 travelling supporters to secure promotion, and Whiting said it was a day that will live long in the memory.
“Monday was a brilliant day for the football club and it was probably two years in the making,” he said.
“We got 80 points in the season before and we all know the heartbreak that went with that but to come back and get 83 points is a terrific achievement and I think we can all appreciate that.
“Watching Monday back you can feel the atmosphere and the noise generated by the fans. I’ve spoken to Jon and he said they could feel that noise in the tunnel and then seeing all the scenes at full-time was just amazing.
“It was a fantastic day all round and one that will stay with us for a long time. To have fans waiting back here in the rain when the coach got back was fantastic and as a club we celebrated long into the night.
“Everything we do we do together and that’s very important to us as a club.”
