Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was pleased with his young squad as they continued their unbeaten start to the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League Two.
Kiantay Licorish-Mullings, Will Ronald and Reuben Wyatt scored the young Cobblers’ goals as they drew 3-3 away to Leyton Orient on Saturday.
“It was a really competitive game, but we weren’t at our best in terms of possession and dictating play,” Goddard said.
“You have to find other ways to be in the game when that happens, and we did that against an older, more physical group.
“We only had three Under 17s in the team and most of the squad were Under 16s.
“The boys found ways to be successful and pick up an important point which helps them on their way to achieve the targets they’ve set themselves for the Merit League.
“It’s fantastic for the group to be competitive in these games because we have to instil winning habits into the boys if they’re going to be successful at senior level.”
