NORTHAMPTON TOWN WOMEN MANAGEMENT DUO PRAISE LATEST VICTORY

Reaction to Sunday's action

20 March 2023

Northampton Town Women joint-managers Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams were delighted with their side’s 2-1 win away to Solihull Moors in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands on Sunday.

Alex Dicks scored both of the Cobblers’ goals as they came from behind to secure all three points with a hardworking and spirited performance.

“It was a really difficult game and I’m knackered, never-mind the girls!” Oldfield said.

“It’s been a demanding week and they gave us everything again.

“It’s never easy to perform at the same intensity twice in quick succession.

“Every player that started or came on exhausted themselves, showing character, resilience and desire against a very good side.

“To keep plugging away, get the goal and defend like we did is outstanding.

“I’m proud of the group and everyone involved with the club, but I’m especially proud of the young players.

“They’re at a club where they’ll be given opportunities at a high level as well as a platform to build from.”

The victory is the Cobblers’ third in a row following successes against Sporting Khalsa and Peterborough United.

“We’ve shown we can win in different ways recently,” Williams added.

“They’ve been tough games against the teams around us, so we couldn’t be happier with three wins out of three.

“The girls have shown great character, which will stand us in good stead moving forwards.”

Oldfield and Williams’ side travel to Sporting Khalsa in their next FAWNL Division One Midlands fixture.

Captain Zoe Boote scored the only goal in front of a club record attendance at Sixfields Stadium in the reverse fixture.

“We’ll take a few moments to enjoy this one, but after that we’ll be fully focussed on Khalsa,” Williams said.

“We had a tough game against them at Sixfields recently, and we’ve got to make sure we rise to the occasion again.”
