MANAGEMENT DUO DELIGHTED AS NORTHAMPTON TOWN WOMEN BEAT PETERBOROUGH UNITED

Northampton Town Women joint-managers Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams were full of praise for their side who won 2-1 at home to Peterborough United in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands on Thursday

Vicky Barrett and Jade Bell scored the Cobblers’ goals as they leapfrogged their rivals in the table.

“We’re delighted with the performance and we got the three points we came for,” Williams said.

“We wanted to show what we’re about, keep our standards high and put pride in the performance.

“I felt the girls did that really well tonight.

“It was an opportunity to prove that we’re better than what we showed in the last meeting.

“That was the focus going into the game, and we’re delighted with the application and effort the girls put in.

“Hopefully we’ll continue that and back it up moving forwards.”

Oldfield added: “There was a lot of fight and resilience because the second half was tough.

“Peterborough are a difficult team to play against because they’re so aggressive and direct.

“Our girls stood strong against that, and we couldn’t have asked for more.”

The Cobblers travel to Solihull Moors in their next FAWNL Division One Midlands fixture on Sunday.

“We have to enjoy this one, but we’ve got another important game coming up,” Oldfield said.

“There’s no point winning tonight and not backing it up with another good performance at the weekend.

“We know it’ll be a tough test, but if we put in a similar performance then I’m confident we’ll get what we want out of the game.”
