New signing Patrick Brough said the reputation of the club helped him decide that Northampton Town was who he wanted to sign for this summer.
Brough will officially become a Cobbler on July 1 and said the club's reputation for developing and improving players was a big attraction.
“I spoke to Jon and Colin about what they want to do and where they want to take the club and why wouldn’t I want to be a part of that," he said.
“When you know someone has been interested in you for a while it gives you a lot of confidence and encouragement and in the end it was a pretty simple decision for me to come here.
“The way the club came back last season from what happened shows the character of the group and when I’ve played against Northampton I’ve always been impressed.
“I’m really looking forward to testing myself in League 1 and that was a big part of my decision. As a player you want to test yourself against better players and at the highest level you can.
“I’ve played quite a few seasons in League 2 now and I wanted to make that step up and put myself to the test.
“I’d like to think I am consistent in my performances, I like defending one-on-one and I like to get forward and get balls into the box.
“Versatility is a massive part of my game and I can play at left-back in a back three or at left-wing back.
“It’s always good to have a few different strings to your bow and as everyone knows football can change throughout a season, sometimes you have to switch formations and I’m happy to do that.”
