Northampton Town travelled to Milton Keynes to play MK Dons for their final pre-season fixture.

Marc Leonard, who had returned back to the club earlier in the day, started the game in midfield.

MK Dons had the ball in the net in the opening few minutes but the effort was ruled out for offside, before the Cobblers had the lead on eight mintues. Akin Odimayo's shot from inside the area was blocked but the ball fell to Mitch Pinnock who fired home over the keeper and into the back of the net.

After eighteen minutes, Pinnock continued his attacking threat with a dangerous low shot that hit the woodwork, while for the home side, Cameron Norman arrowed a shot in from the edge of area five minutes before the break that went wide of the far post.

Aaron McGowan replaced Jon Guthrie as a pre-planned change at half time and the Cobblers started the second half strongly with Tyreece Simpson shooting across the face of goal.

Jonathan Leko was narrowly wide for the Dons with fifty minutes on the clock, before Warren O’Hora levelled the game just before the hour with a strong header into the top right corner.

Seventy-five minutes in, Trialist B nearly put the Cobblers back in front with shot that was tipped away by Craig MacGillivray but Peter Abimbola put the Cobblers back in front in the closing stages with a neat close range finish.

Jon Brady's side ended the game well on top, Ben Fox adding a third goal via a close range deflection and the energetic Abimbola denied a penalty when he appeared to have been felled by keeper MacGillivray inside the area.
