NORTHAMPTON TOWN SIGN DEFENDER MANNY MONTHÉ

Experienced defender checks in at Sixfields

14 July 2023

Northampton Town have signed defender Manny Monthé on a two year contract.

The 6ft 4in, 28 year old centre back began his career as a youth player at Queen's Park Rangers, before moving to Forest Green Rovers and helping his new side win promotion to the EFL.

He repeated that feat a year later when he helped Tranmere win promotion back to the EFL as part of a loan spell that was later made permanent for an undisclosed fee.

He played a key part in Tranmere's promotion to League 1 in 2018/19, his third promotion in successive seasons, winning the club's young player of the season award.

He played 31 times for Rovers in the 2019/20 League 1 season, before moving on to Walsall in the summer of 2021 after making 137 appearances in three years at Prenton Park.

Monthé made 93 appearances for the Saddlers in two years in the West Midlands and turned down a number of other offers to make the move to Sixfields.

"We were looking for another experienced centre back and we are pleased to have recruited Manny," said manager Jon Brady.

"He is only 28 but already has nearly 300 senior appearances under his belt and has played a lot of football in the last five years particularly.

"He is left footed, big and strong and powerful and a threat in both boxes. He can play in a three or a four and is a good fit with the other centre backs we have.

"He has a good experience and is a three time promotion winner but he is also a player who we think has the potential to get better and with our record of helping players to develop and improve, we believe this is a good signing for us."
