Northampton Town have signed Barnsley midfielder Will Hondermarck for an undisclosed fee.

The 21 year old has signed on a two and a half year contract at Sixfields and is a player who has long been tracked by the club.

Hondermarck, who is a Republic of Ireland youth international, joined Barnsley from Norwich City in 2021, making seventeen appearances during his time at Oakwell.

He started three Championship games and came off the bench in six others for the Reds last term, while he has made a further seven appearances for the Oakwell outfit so far this season.

Hondermarck is a 6ft 1in tall, athletic, imposing midfield player who was born in France but raised in Dublin, Ireland, impressing in his time with Drogheda United before joining the Canaries and also enjoying a short spell on loan with Harrogate Town during the 2020/21 campaign.

"Will is a player we have identified and have pursued for some time including in previous transfer windows," said manager Jon Brady. "We are delighted we have been able to secure his signature at this point.

"He is a powerful, athletic and mobile box to box midfield player who can play in a number of positions and roles. He has had a good grounding at some excellent clubs and has experience of the Championship and League 1.

"He fits our model and the template of the player we are looking to recruit with an eye very much on the future with this signing.

"Will is a good age and has the potential to develop further, and we are delighted to welcome him to the club."
