Jon Brady says the Cobblers won't abandon their recruitment principles and make signings for the sake of it this January.
The squad are currenly missing a number of key players through injury, but with most expected to return in the next couple of weeks, Brady says he won't be panicked in to signing players for the sake of it to cover a short term gap if that player isn't right for the club, preferring to consider the club's own young players instead.
“We have got to stay strong with our recruitment policy, we have looked at several players and we’ve been close to a couple but in the current market we are competing against some really strong teams and teams from higher levels, but that shows the players we are targeting are the right one," he said.
“Our blueprint isn't to make snap decisions. We do our homework and our planning. We are trying to get the right player who is the right fit for us and we aren’t going to force it. Our recruitment has been strong over the last couple of years and that doesn't happen by accident - that is the case because we don't just sign players for the sake of it. We only do deals when we think they are right for the player and the club and all factors are in place.
"We are developing our own young players as well, they deserve opportunities and it’s just about getting the balance right.
“We’ve had a lot of injuries to our backline this season and that has been tough. It is frustrating and we may have to ride through a difficult period at the moment while we wait to get players back but a few aren’t too far away and that is important.”
