NORTHAMPTON TOWN WOMEN WIN TO EXTEND UNBEATEN RUN

A report on Thursday's game

23 February 2023

Northampton Town Women won 5-0 at home to Leafield Athletic in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands on Thursday evening.

Alex Dicks scored a brace, whilst Kim Farrow, Jade Bell and Mia Richards netted the Cobblers’ other goals as they extended their unbeaten league run to seven games.

The hosts managed to create more opportunities in an even start to the first half.

Their opponents fashioned the first, Holly Mayfield pushing away a long-range shot and gathering the ball before Jessica Lowe could turn home the rebound.

Northampton first threatened through Bell, who charged forward from her own half and squared the ball, but no one was able to convert in the middle.

Bell curled a first-time shot over from captain Zoe Boote’s cutback and Dicks had a drive denied by Erica Turner as the Cobblers continued to create openings.

They made the breakthrough 10 minutes before the break when Dicks looped an effort over Turner from the edge of the area.

The forward doubled her tally and her side’s lead when she found the bottom corner from a similar position two minutes later.

The two quick goals put the hosts firmly in control, and they almost extended their lead late in the first period when Vicky Barrett stabbed a corner towards the near post from where Bell turned over.

Bell played Dicks through on goal shortly after the restart, but Turner rushed off her line to deny her a third.

Her team added their third on the hour mark, Farrow driving a penalty into the bottom corner after Boote was brought down in the box.

The Northampton skipper almost got herself on the scoresheet a few minutes later, but her flick across goal rolled inches past the post.

Bell followed-up after her initial effort was blocked to score the Cobblers’ fourth 20 minutes from time, and Richards made it five less than a minute later when Boote’s shot from Dicks’ cutback deflected towards the substitute who tapped in from close range.

Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams’ side make the long trip to relegation-threatened Wem Town on Sunday.

Cobblers: Holly Mayfield, Sara Wait, Vicky Barrett (sub TJ Warren 65), Bianca Luttman, Zoe Boote, Favour Omenazu, Fay Noble (sub Rachael Mumford 76), Beth Artemiou (sub Abbie Reboul 74), Jade Bell, Alex Dicks, Kim Farrow (sub Mia Richards 65)
