Northampton Town Women won 8-0 away to Long Eaton United in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands on Sunday afternoon.
Alex Dicks scored a hat-trick, Zoe Boote and Jade Bell netted braces and Rachael Mumford bagged the Cobblers’ other goal as they defeated their bottom-of-the-table opponents for the second time this season.
The visitors were dominant in the first half and almost opened the scoring early on, when captain Boote’s shot from Bell’s cutback was tipped onto the crossbar by Laura Setchfield.
They did make the breakthrough a few minutes later when Mumford took a touch to set herself and found the top corner from 30 yards.
Captain Boote doubled the lead less than a minute later, heading Abbie Brewin’s cross in off the far post.
Bell extended the advantage on the quarter-of-an-hour mark, controlling Georgia Tear’s lofted pass and squirming a shot past Setchfield.
Dicks added a fourth midway through the opening period when she slotted in off the woodwork from Bianca Luttman’s through ball.
There was still time for two more Northampton goals before the break, Bell placing into the bottom corner from another Tear pass and Dicks converting a penalty won by the midfielder.
The second half was scrappy, but the Cobblers were still able to increase their lead to eight after the interval.
Brewin and Boote combined for a second time as the skipper nodded home shortly after the restart, and Dicks cut inside and curled into the top corner to complete her hat-trick on the hour.
