The Northampton Town Football and Education Programme Women’s squad won 3-1 at home to Chelsea in the National Football Youth League South Premier Women on Wednesday afternoon.
Keeley Jackson scored a brace whilst Alex Dicks netted the Cobblers’ other goal as they earned their fourth consecutive victory in all competitions.
The visitors edged possession in the opening 45 minutes, but the hosts created the majority of the chances.
Captain Mia Richards took the first meaningful shot of the game on the quarter-of-an-hour mark, cutting inside and forcing the ‘keeper into a low save.
The Cobblers took the lead at the midpoint of the half, Jackson following-up from a tight angle after Dicks’ curled shot was pushed wide by the ’keeper.
Dicks ran onto Richards’ lofted pass, rounded the ‘keeper and passed into the empty net to double the advantage a few minutes later.
Chelsea halved the deficit going into the break, a first-time drive from the edge of the area finding the top corner.
The hosts restored their two-goal advantage early in the second half as Jackson converted Dicks’ square ball.
The Cobblers remained in control for most of the second period, but Chelsea came closest to bagging the fifth goal of the contest. Iona Smith tipped a powerful strike onto the crossbar in added time.
