JOSH OLDFIELD DISAPPOINTED BY DEFEAT IN FINAL PRE-SEASON GAME

Reaction to Sunday's final pre-season fixture

13 August 2023

Northampton Town Women joint-manager Josh Oldfield was disappointed as his side ended their 2023-24 pre-season schedule with a defeat away to Swindon Town on Sunday.

Alex Dicks scored the Cobblers’ only goal as they were beaten by their opponents, who finished sixth in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West in the 2022-23 season.

“The performance wasn’t what we wanted,” Oldfield said.

“Credit to Swindon because they were aggressive and clinical.

“It wasn’t a performance that I was happy with, and I didn’t see it coming either.

“It’s not been a good day from our point of view.”

The Cobblers begin the 2023-24 FAWNL Division One Midlands campaign at home to Peterborough United next week. The derby kicks-off at 2pm at Fernie Fields Sports Ground and tickets are available from ntfcdirect.co.uk or on the gate.

“We’ve put in good performances and picked up good results in pre-season,” Oldfield added.

“We’ve made a point of building momentum in pre-season, but finishing it with a difficult day will leave a sour taste.

“Even so, we feel that we’ve prepared well for next Sunday as well as a long league season.

“We’re in a good position going forwards.”
