Northampton Town Women Development lost 3-1 at home to Wycombe Wanderers in a pre-season friendly on Sunday afternoon.
The Cobblers put in a positive performance against their higher-Tier opposition despite suffering a defeat.
The hosts grew into the contest after a slow opening 10 minutes, controlling possession and creating chances without being able to open the scoring.
The visitors did just that against the run of play when an attacker broke through one-on-one and slotted home on the half-an-hour mark.
The Cobblers continued to force openings in a strong finish to the first half and an energetic and aggressive start to the second.
However, Wycombe doubled their lead after the hosts conceded possession. The goal halted their momentum, but they were able to halve the deficit when Kayleigh Brocklehurst’s cross was turned in by a defender.
The visitors restored their two-goal lead with a strike from the edge of the area two minutes later, securing a win in the process.
