After a sumptuous free kick from Sam Hoskins put the Cobblers ahead, Town were edged out by a side that were in the Championship just a few months ago in a performance that offered plenty of encouragement for the season ahead.
As Jon Brady himself said: "We didn't come and sit back. We are Northampton, we have fought hard to get here and we are not going to step back and go all defensive. We have to take confidence that we can go toe to toe with the best sides in this division."
